The proper management of patients with lipid disorders is an important aspect of preventive cardiovascular medicine. While most patients do well on their prescribed medical regimens, many do not reach their lipid goals. This presentation focuses on the proper use of lipid medication, common pitfalls in lipid management, and treatment options for patients who do not respond adequately despite the use of properly designed medical regimens.
Upon completion of this webcast, the participants will be able to:
- Understand the indications for and mechanism of action of drugs used for the management of hyperlipidemia
- Distinguish between and avoid the most common errors health care providers make in the management of lipid disorders
- Know when to refer patients for clinical lipidology consultation and for consideration of LDL apheresis
