Program Description:

Internships can enhance your cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation program beyond your expectations. This webcast will introduce the benefits of connecting with universities to establish a new or enhance an existing internship program.

The presenters will address ways to maximize the educational experience for interns, enhance your own staff satisfaction and improve program outcomes. Strategies for connecting the internship program to process improvement (PI) and how to enhance/improve staff performance will be discussed. Participants will learn how to explore relations with universities, and the necessary steps that must be taken, from the early steps of implementation to becoming a top notch, highly desirable internship program. 

Upon completion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the components of an internship.
  2. Understand how to implement a cardiac or pulmonary internship program.
  3. Properly train cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation interns.

Target Audience:

This session will motivate any cardiac or pulmonary manager/coordinator/supervisor to take their program to the next level! Senior staff will learn strategies to enhance the internship experience in addition to gaining professional growth.

About the Speakers:

Annie Bennett has served as an Internship Coordinator for two years and previously participated in a cardiac rehabilitation internship herself. She serves as a Board member for the Texas Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (TACVPR). Bennett currently holds the position of Senior Exercise Physiologist at St. David’s Medical Center’s Phase I, II and III Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs in Austin, Texas.

Laura Raymond has practiced clinical cardiology for more than 20 years. She has held various clinical, educational and management positions directly related to intensive coronary care, telemetry and rehabilitation. Raymond founded the Central Texas Cardiac Support Group and currently serves in the following roles: AACVPR Certification Committee member, ACLS Faculty, AHA past Board member, AHA Speakers Bureau, TACVPR Board member and Past Conference Chair, and as an AACVPR Fellow. She has written numerous articles related to the delivery of cardiac rehabilitation and is a recipient of the AHA Distinguished Service Award and the “Frist” Humanitarian Award/HCA Healthcare Corporation. Raymond currently serves as the Manager of Cardiac Rehabilitation at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas.
