Volunteer Fact Sheet

All state/ country team(s) will need a Coordinator, a volleyball coach (if your group includes a volleyball team), and two volunteers to be assigned an Olympic venue during the Heart and Lung Games.

  1. The State/ Country Coordinator will be responsible for the State/ Country team, which includes the following:
    • Dispense information and forms in the registration packet.
    • Completed REGISTRATION forms (Part A,B, and C).
    • Completed ASSUMPTION of RISK form and MEDICAL ACKNOWLEDGMENT form for each athlete.
    • Collection of ALL monies for Registration, housing (if staying at Piedmont College dorms), extra lunch/ dinner tickets, extra shirts, etc..
    • Make all travel arrangements to Demorest, Georgia.
    • Make all lodging / hotel accommodations.
    • Make all medical equipment arrangements at lodging/ hotel accommodations.
    • Deadline date for Registration (Part A & B) is March 15, 2003.
    • Deadline date for Registration (Part C) is March 31, 2003. No additions or changes will be allowed after this date!

  2. The State/ Country Coordinator will be responsible for informing the athletes about the general rules of the Heart & Lung Games prior to the games. The athletes should follow the same general guidelines for preparation for exercise. PLEASE ASSESS your athlete’s health and appropriateness for competing in the Heart & Lung Games or the events the athlete has signed up to compete in.

  3. On May 23, 2003, the State/ Country Coordinator will check-in the entire state/ country team at the registration center at Piedmont College, the Johnny Mize Athletic Center in Demorest, Georgia. At this time the Registration committee will give to the coordinator the entire team’s “entry” package (includes: meal tickets for lunch and dinner for Saturday, athletic commemorative shirts, campus map, and information regarding bus trip to Helen, Georgia).

  4. During the Heart and Lung Games, the State/ Country Coordinator should have an exercise leader assigned to monitor athlete’s temperament, vital signs, blood glucose (athlete with diabetes), and other pertinent factor to ensure the well being of the athlete (s). The volleyball coach must stay with the volleyball team while the team is playing a match. The volleyball coach should be a health professional experienced in observing exercise responses in a cardiac/ pulmonary athlete. The volleyball coach is responsible for substituting a player based on “health” needs.

  5. The State/ Country Coordinator shall take responsibility of their athletes if a code/ arrest situation should occur. The Habersham EMS will provide emergency treatment and run the code under the supervision of medical physician on staff at Habersham County Medical Center.

  6. The State/ Country Coordinator will have and keep a brief medical history on each of the athletes. Medical history should include the following information: athlete name, athlete physician name and phone number, two emergency contact names and phone numbers, implanted devices (pacemaker, AICD, insulin pump, etc.), allergies, and current medications on a 3x5 index card that can be used if an emergency should occur.
