Fall Risk Assessment and Intervention in the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Setting

This webcast presentation will focus on balance assessment and treatment intervention of the patient population with high risk of falls including those patients with impairments of cardiovascular and pulmonary systems, neurological involvement, and patients with multiple co-morbidities. Self-reported and objective balance screening tools will be introduced as well as treatment intervention strategies for balance, strengthening, and flexibility exercises.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify extrinsic, intrinsic, and modifiable fall risk factors

  • Identify and utilize appropriate balance and screening tools for patients with fall risk

  • Demonstrate ability to best educate patients with fall risks

  • Outline appropriate exercise prescription for patients with significant fall risk who have multiple co-morbidities

  • Create protocols to optimize communication among interdisciplinary team members regarding patients with high fall risk
