Fellows and Masters

Nominations Are Now Open

Each year, AACVPR recognizes the best, brightest and most innovative individuals in the cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation fields with prestigious association awards. Recognize your colleagues and peers for their contributions to these fields or celebrate your own accomplishments by completing a nomination form for the following honors:

  • L. Kent Smith Award of Excellence
  • Distinguished Service Award
  • AACVPR Fellowship
  • Master of AACVPR

AACVPR Fellow (FAACVPR)

Appointment as an honorary Fellow in a professional society is designed to honor exceptional achievement and service within the professional domain of the awarding body. Meeting the minimal requirements for advancement to AACVPR Fellowship status does not guarantee advancement to AACVPR Fellowship. The peer-reviewed phase of the application, along with the achievement of the minimum requirements, will ultimately determine if advancement to Fellowship is warranted.

Fellowship Requirements

Minimum requirements for consideration of advancement to Fellow status in 2023:

  • Be an active AACVPR Member in good standing for at least 3 consecutive years immediately preceding the application period. *Please note to be eligible for AACVPR Fellowship 2023 application, you must have maintained membership in AACVPR since July 1, 2020.
  • Applicant must have participated (via research, speaking, moderating, posters, abstracts, planning committee) at a minimum of two (2) AACVPR Annual Meetings within the last ten (10) years.
  • Submit curriculum vitae that includes evidence of distinguished service to AACVPR and the field of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and/or influential, high-impact research relative to the field of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
  • Submit evidence of outstanding performance in cardiovascular and/or pulmonary rehabilitation over a period of at least five years relative to service
  • Receive recommendation in writing from at least one (1) current AACVPR Fellow or Master of AACVPR
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professional development and a commitment to the goals and long-range activities of AACVPR

The Awards Committee considers the following information when considering Fellowship applicants:

  • The strength and enthusiasm of the candidate’s Fellow/Master endorsers.
  • The significance, quality and role of service over time during which the candidate has been associated with AACVPR.
  • The influence and quality of the research submitted by the candidate for consideration.
  • The final decision for advancement to AACVPR Fellowship status is a recommendation from the AACVPR Awards Committee (based on the application).

Complete the application for the 2023 AACVPR Fellow. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, March 7, 2023.

AACVPR Master (MAACVPR)

AACVPR has instituted a top level of fellowship, "Master of AACVPR", which is awarded to those who exemplify the highest standards of our profession. Only current AACVPR Fellow and Master are able to nominate colleagues for the MAACVPR designation.

Master Requirements

Minimum requirements for consideration of advancement to Master status in 2023:

  1. Applicant must be nominated by a current AACVPR Master.
  2. Applicant must submit at least two (2) letters of support (one of which must be from the Fellow or Master who nominated them).
  3. Applicant must submit curriculum vitae that includes evidence of distinguished service to the AACVPR and the field of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and/or influence, high-impact research relative to the field of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
  4. Applicant must be an AACVPR Fellow and an active AACVPR member for, at least ten (10) consecutive years prior to the application (since July 1, 2013).
  5. Since Fellows must have been a member for 3 years, a Master applicant will have been in the cardiopulmonary field for at least 13 years.
  6. Applicant must have participated (via research, speaking, moderating, posters, abstracts, planning committee) at a minimum of three (3) AACVPR Annual Meetings within the last 10 years.
  7. Applicant must have served as a Committee Chair and/or Board member for AACVPR.
  8. The Awards Committee may select one individual each year who may not meet all of these qualifying criteria, but, based on their significant historical contributions to AACVPR and the field of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, are deemed deserving of Master. This individual must still submit an application, CV and a minimum of two (2) letters of support.

The Awards Committee considers the following information when considering Masters applicants:

  • The strength and enthusiasm of the candidate’s Fellow/Master endorsers.
  • The significance, quality and role of service over time during which the candidate has been associated with AACVPR.
  • The final decision for advancement to Master of AACVPR is a recommendation from the AACVPR Awards Committee (based on the application).
